About Spark

Spark is a directory of electricians in California. It is free to search, free to appear in, and nobody can buy a better position.

Where the listings come from

Every business here was found in Google local results across the state, then checked one at a time against its own Google record. The check matches on the identifier Google uses for a place rather than on the name, which is what stops a company in Pasadena from being confused with a company of the same name somewhere else.

A listing only publishes when it has a working phone number, a California address the Census files in a real county, and enough evidence that it is really in the electrical trade. Records that fail any of those are dropped rather than guessed at.

What we do not do

We do not sell leads. We do not put a tracking number in front of the real one. We do not take a percentage of any job. We do not accept payment to move a business up a list, and there is no advertising slot at the top of a city page.

We also do not publish license numbers. A number scraped from a listing and printed as fact is how a stale record turns into a claim about somebody. The contractor board record is the live one, and we show you how to read it.

How ranking works

Businesses are ordered by rating weighted against how many people left one. A 4.9 with three hundred reviews sits above a 5.0 with three, because one of those numbers is evidence and the other is a coincidence. That is the whole formula and it is the same on every page.

Getting something fixed

If a listing is wrong, closed, or belongs to you and you want it changed, send it through the claim form and it gets handled by a person.

Where this is going

The directory covers California today. The learning center and the licensing pages already cover the whole country, and the directory follows state by state rather than switching on a thin list of fifty states at once.
